European Commission: Setting up an Experts' Group for Organic Farming

European Commission sets up an Experts' Group for technical advise on organic production and published the call for applications with a view to appointing the members of the group and establishing the relevant pool list.
The Group's task shall be to assist the Commission in:
- evaluating products, substances and techniques which can be used in organic production, taking into account the objectives and principles laid down in Council Regulation (EC) No 834/2007.
- improving existing rules and developing new production rules·
- bringing about an exchange of experience and good practices in the field of organic production.
The Commission may consult the group on any matter in the field of organic production.
Features of the group
Composition
The group shall be composed of scientists and other experts with competences related to organic production and should deliver independent, excellent and transparent technical advice to the Commission.
It shall consist of 13 members appointed by the Commission from specialists with competence in the areas referred to in this call who have been selected accordingly. The Commission will also establish a pool list of candidates. A maximum of 91 experts will be selected for the pool list.
Term of the appointment
Members of the group will be appointed for a three-year renewable term of office and may not serve for more than three consecutive mandates.
The composition of the group and of the pool list will be reviewed every three years by launching a call for applications.
No remuneration shall be paid for services rendered whilst meeting expenses will be reimbursed within the limits of the annual budget allocated to the group by the responsible Commission services.
Most of the working documents will be in English and meetings will normally be conducted in English.
Applicants should take into account that meetings generally involve preparatory work.
